History & Ambiance

Varnedoe's Restaurant is called the Carriage House because it is located in the old Carriage House of the Myrtles Plantation. Nestled among moss covered, majestic Live Oak trees, The Myrtles Plantation is “One of America’s Most Haunted Houses”. Circa 1796 and now functions as a Bed & Breakfast. The Myrtles is listed on the National Historic Register and offers Historic Guided Tours Daily and Mystery Tours on Friday and Saturday evenings. It is truly an architect’s dream with its hand painted stained glass, open pierced plaster friezework, original examples of Faux-bois, Aubusson tapestry, Baccarat crystal chandeliers, gold leafed French furnishings, and Carrara marble mantels.
